How To Choose A Major For Your College Application When You Have No Idea What You Want To Study
The Common App WILL ask you what you want to major in. For most teenagers, this question seems impossible to answer. How can you commit to a future path of study and career when you’re not even sure what you want to eat for breakfast tomorrow?
Here’s the good news: indicating a prospective major isn’t a binding contract. You’re allowed to change your mind, and nobody will hold you to the program of study you chose in the drop down menu, or resent you for your evolving interests.
Most colleges offer majors that high school students have never been exposed to. Biochemistry, Global Studies, Gender Studies, Chinese, Accounting, Philosophy… the list goes on and on. If everyone stuck to the major they listed on their application, colleges wouldn’t be able to fill those programs!
