Help! My SAT/ACT Was Pushed Back. How Do I Stay Fresh?
With COVID cases increasing across the United States and test centers that aren’t yet equipped to meet social distancing protocols, the College Board and ACT have been forced to postpone test sittings nationwide. Maybe yours was one of them.
You dutifully took an ACT prep course, worked with a private SAT tutor, and completed practice section after practice section. You had a study schedule and a plan that would help you roll confidently into test day. Now, your plans have changed.
But will you still remember the difference between the mean, median, and mode when you sit down to take the test? How about the strategies for the reading section you drilled? Best practices for handling tricky Science questions?
You’ve built up your testing muscles through hard work and plenty of practice. Don’t let your diligent preparation go to waste! If you’re planning to run a half marathon this fall, for example, and are able to complete all 13.1 miles today, there’s no guarantee that you’ll finish the race if you take the next four months off to binge Hulu on the couch. And you wouldn’t expect to! Everyone knows that if you don’t use your muscles, they atrophy. The same principle applies to your brain.
The answer? Keep reviewing.
Before you groan, you don’t have to dedicate hours a day to test prep. In fact, that might be counterproductive. All it really takes is short, focused, and consistent practice, and you’ll be able to retain your skills and even boost your score!
If you have superhuman discipline, you may be able to create a schedule for yourself. But for most of us, finding an accountability partner and getting on a consistent schedule provides a more certain pathway to success.
Let us be that accountability partner. We’re running a 15 week summer program for both the SAT and ACT. Every Monday until October 12th, we’ll send you a weekly assignment to keep you on track. If you’re preparing for the SAT, we’ll cover math, reading, and grammar. If you’re on the ACT track, we’ll cover English, reading, math, and science. 45 minutes a week will ensure your skills are fresh come test day so you can earn the score you deserve.
