Meet the Tutor: Lily Polonetsky
What’s the best part about working with Revolution Tutors? Our incredible team!
This summer, we’ll be highlighting members of our expert staff in a series called Meet the Tutor. If you’ve ever been curious about where our tutors have gone to school themselves, how they spend their free time, and what it would be like to be in their class, read on!
This week, we’re highlighting the brilliant Lily Polonetsky, a programming aficionado who likes reading Dave Eggers and makes a mean chocolate covered pretzel!
When Lily was in high school, a boy spammed her email through code. She found it equal parts annoying and cool, and when he showed her his code, she was determined to figure out how it worked. Thus, a programming star was born!
She followed her newfound passion for computer science to Yeshiva University, where she’s currently pursuing a minor in mathematics alongside her computer science major. Lily keeps herself busy as a member of the Computer Science Club and a contributor to a data structures visualizations project. “I love the creative side of coding, and the beauty of its efficiency,” she explains. If you want to hone your programming skills or need an assist to figure out a tricky math problem, she’s your girl! Lily also participates in the Seforim Sale, North America’s largest Jewish book sale and a major fundraiser for the Yeshiva community.
Lily’s favorite part about working at Revolution Tutors is the sense of community and camaraderie between staff and students! Strong relationships enhance the learning process and make it feel more intimate. She says, “Our small class sizes allow us to really get to know students’ personalities and empower us to have a more dynamic classroom experience.” These small class sizes let Lily ask her students tons of questions to make sure they really understand why the answer choice they selected is right or wrong. Her classes are highly interactive and attuned to the needs of the particular students enrolled. “Even though I’m teaching the same lesson,” she shares, “the class should be different for each distinct group of students.” Bonus: If you’re really lucky, she might make you one of her famous chocolate covered pretzels!
Learn more about Lily and see what you might have in common through her five favorites:
I love Slurpees, especially the funky seasonal flavors like Basil Strawberry.
In Time is my favorite movie because it poses questions like “what does time mean?” while also being just a fun movie.
My favorite book is The Circle by Dave Eggers. It asks meaningful questions about data privacy and technology and has an entertaining storyline!
Mint ice cream is the best! (I’m telling you, it does not taste like toothpaste…)
I hate sitting and love to keep active through running and biking!
