The Absolute Necessity of Taking Diagnostic Exams
This one really shouldn't be rocket science.
You know what is a good way to train students to do well on the actual SAT or ACT?
To have them practice by taking real SATs/ ACTs, in real test conditions. A 3 hour ordeal. Timed. Proctored.
This is the most efficient and dynamic way to prepare for the test and it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
You know what is a good way to get better at basketball?
To play.
Sure, layup lines may help, and it is nice to work on your goose neck, but there is no substitute for getting the real experience.
Often I here students say, I want to LEARN the material.
Here is my response:
1. I plan to teach you most of the material that shows up on the test through an analysis of your test using our detailed score reports
2. You had 7 years to LEARN
NOW it's time to TRAIN
How to ration our limited time efficiently (sometimes this means leaving questions blank!)
How not to fall prey to the vicious mind games of the SAT/ ACT during an arduous 3 hour test
How to respond when things aren't going well and you feel yourself slipping
So get ready for long tests and hard work.
It's worth it.
